RAWALPINDI: Ali Moeen Nawazish of Rawalpindi has brought worldwide recognition to Pakistan by blazing his way into the Guinness Book of World Records, clearing 23 A-Level subjects and securing A Grade in 21 of them.  A student of Roots School System, it was Ali’s “thirst for knowledge” that made him the only student in the world to appear in 23 subjects. He appeared in all examinations within 12 months.
Rarely has a Pakistani student taken up subjects that Ali opted for, like Tourism and Marine Sciences. He is also the first student in the world to have secured 21 A Grades, the previous record being 13.
No wonder his remarkable success drew the attention of major international newspapers with CNN and BBC also airing his interviews. Unfortunately authorities in Pakistan were unmoved. When Ali sat down to fill up his university application forms at home, there was barely enough space to list all his qualifications. With his talent spilling over, it was no surprise that he also achieved a top score in the US admissions test and was accepted by most Ivy League institutions, including Harvard and Yale. Apart from core science subjects, Ali is almost entirely self-taught with his extraordinary memory and amazing analytical powers.

Shoaib Akhtar to retire from international cricket after World Cup

Mercurial Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar will retire from international cricket after the World Cup, ending a tempestuous career that was marred by several controversies including a dope scandal. The 35-year-old reportedly broke the news to his team-mates and manager here this morning.
With an injury-ravaged body finding it tough to withstand the rigours of international cricket, Akhtar was looking at the World Cup as his final shot at glory. While he was impressive in the opening match against Sri Lanka, form began to desert to him as the event progressed. This prompted the team management to drop him for the last match against Zimbabwe.
Akhtar, who has 178 wickets in 46 Tests and 247 in 163 ODIs to his credit, made his international debut in 1997, against the West Indies. The express bowler, however, always found himself embroiled in controversies over his actions and disciplinary issues.
He was subjected to a two-year ban in 2006 for testing positive for Nandrolone, a banned steroid. The pacer missed out competing in the Champions Trophy that year but the verdict was overturned by a three-man tribunal a month later.
He had his differences with the Pakistan Cricket Board as well and was even fined for openly speaking against the PCB.

PCB TO ASK ICC TO INVESTIGATE SHANE WARNE FOR INDIA-ENGLAND MATCH PREDICTION

PCB to ask ICC to investigate Shane Warne for India-England match prediction
The Pakistan Cricket Board has raised questions over the controversial prediction from the former Australian cricketer Shane Warne which he gave before the start of the match between India and England.
PCB will ask the International Cricket Council to investigate the matter and find out the truth.
The ICC World Cup 2011 was glorified with a nail biting finish in the India-England match, which resulted in a tie. However, the outcome of the match was guessed correctly by Warne.
The legendary player Tweeted before the start of the match, “Looking forward to the game between India and England today, it should be a cracker. My prediction is a tie!”
The chairman of PCB Ijaz Butt was surprised by the prediction and said that it was hard to believe that someone could make such an accurate forecast. He further stated, “We will raise the matter and ask the ICC to conduct a fair inquiry into the matter.”
However, several former Pakistan cricketers said that there would be no action taken by the ICC over Warne’s comments as he was an Australian. Former Pakistan captain Amir Sohail said that if any Pakistani had made such remarks, it would have prompted a lot of attention from the ICC.
Another former Pakistan captain Moin Khan said that such comments should be avoided as they can lead to a lot of controversies. However, Moin said that Warne’s prediction may have only been a hunch.
On the other hand, there were reports that the ICC was investigating Australia’s match against Zimbabwe in which they batted really slow in the first 10 overs. The Kangaroos only managed 28 runs in their first Powerplay, which raised many eyebrows.
However, the Australian team denied such reports and wicketkeeper batsman Brad Haddin claimed that there was no investigation being done, as the match had nothing suspicious about it. He further added that it was their strategy to keep wickets in hand in the early stages of the match.
Recently, three Pakistan players, Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were banned by the ICC from cricket for least 5 years each for their involvement in spot-fixing during their tour to England in 2010
