Dairy products don’t raise heart attack risk

LONDON: Cheese and butter eaters worry no more as researchers found that eating dairy products do not raise the risk of heart attack.

The nutritionists examined thousands of old-aged people and came to know that even those who ate more than half a kilo of cheese did not put them under increased risk.

Things like milk and cheese are very complex substance, explained researcher Stella Aslibekyan from Brown University, Rhode Island, where the study was carried out.

The study suggested that nutrients like calcium, vitamin D and potassium present in the dairy products may protect against heart disease for all but those who ate the most of them.

Coffee cuts risk of lethal prostate cancer

More is better when it comes to drinking coffee to ward off the risk of deadly prostate cancer, according to a major US study released by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health - AFP (File Photo)

WASHINGTON: More is better when it comes to drinking coffee to ward off the risk of deadly prostate cancer, according to a major US study released Tuesday by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health.
Men who drank six or more cups per day had a 60 per cent lower risk of developing the most lethal type of prostate cancer and a 20 per cent lower risk of forming any type of prostate cancer compared to men who did not drink coffee, it said.
Even just one to three cups per day was linked to a 30 per cent lower risk of developing lethal prostate cancer.
“Few studies have specifically studied the association of coffee intake and the risk of lethal prostate cancer, the form of the disease that is the most critical to prevent,” said Harvard associate professor and senior author Lorelei Mucci.
“Our study is the largest to date to examine whether coffee could lower the risk of lethal prostate cancer,” she said.
The effects were the same whether the coffee was caffeinated or decaffeinated, leading researchers to believe the lower risk could be linked to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits of coffee.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in US men, but it is not always deadly.
A blood test can detect it early, and the cancer can be graded on what is known as a Gleason score; the higher the score the more likely the cancer is to spread.
There are 16 million survivors of prostate cancer worldwide, and one in six men in the United States will get prostate cancer during their lifetime.
Risk factors are typically linked to Western high-fat diets, heredity, alcohol and exposure to chemicals.
The study examined 47,911 US men who reported on how much coffee they drank every four years from 1986 to 2008.
Over the course of the study, a total of 5,035 cases of prostate cancer were reported, including 642 fatal, or metastatic, cases.
The lower risk seen in coffee drinkers remained even after researchers allowed for other factors that typically boost risk and were more often seen in coffee drinkers than in abstainers, such as smoking and failure to exercise.

Heart Attacks. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals for generations, not cold water, it is time we adopt their drinking habit especially while eating.

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the
intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and can lead to many illnesses including heart attack and cancer . It is best to drink hot or warm drink after a meal. Common Symptoms Of Heart Attack.....
A serious note about heart attacks - You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the
left arm hurting . Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
You may never have the first
chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms... 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we have to survive.

Lethal Asian Foods

Would you dare to have a bite of some of these lethal specialties? Different cultures have different customs. Therefore they have different tastes when it comes to food preparation. But some Asian cooks are really courageous, or better say the people that eat are the brave ones. If you go to one of the countries where they prepare these kinds of lethal foods, maybe you should get acquainted with them before ordering. Your own skin is at stake here, pay attention.

1. Durian

Duran is known throughout Asia as the king of fruit because of it size and weight. It can weigh up to 3 kilograms and be 30 centimeters long and 15 centimeters wide. However, Duran has a specific odor that has been compared to one of gym socks, strong cheese, rotten onion etc. You will either love it or be disgusted. Therefore in Asia it has been forbidden for passengers to carry this fruit with them into the public transport. Its looks may deceive you, because it has been proven that consuming alcohol while or after eating this fruit can be deadly. It makes alcohol processing almost impossible for the liver.

2. Monkey Brains

This Chinese delicacy will not only make your stomach turn but can also be potentially dangerous for your health. If you eat monkey’s brains you might get infected with a disease similar to mad cow disease. Your brain would in that case turn to squish. Not to talk about the animals’ rights.

3. Thai Bat Soup (Grilled Chinese Rat)

You would probably want to talk to the cook before ordering. If improperly cooked, you could end up dead. The meat of bats and rats can contain parasites or pathogens that can make you seriously ill. In the end you can always blame the chef.

4. Cassava (Yuca)

Cassava can leave you paralyzed or in some cases you can dye from cyanide poisoning. If it is cooked incorrectly it can let out certain amounts of cyanide. You have to be extremely brave or stupid to eat this on daily basis.

5. Fugu

The Fugu fish can only be prepared by licensed Japanese chefs because its liver is extremely toxic and can kill you. When prepared correctly it is safe to eat but it’s too big of a risk for a piece of meat. The death by fugu is excruciating and painful. If you ate the wrong piece of fish you would firs feel numbness, then pain, and finally paralysis that stop the muscles of the diaphragm from working, smothering you to death.
